Wragge & Co LLP residential development specialists have advised Persimmon Homes on its £60 million contract to provide up to 500 affordable homes to a consortium of four Registered Social Landlords (RSLs). The homes are part of a comprehensive and balanced community scheme also providing an equal number of homes for private sale.

Under the deal, Persimmon will develop new homes across a range of sites in southern England. The Homes & Communities Agency provided extensive grant funding to the RSLs to ensure the deal went ahead.

Partners Richard Bate and John Dixon led the Wragge & Co team, assisted by director Patrick Garner and associate James Bloxidge. They also worked closely with Peter Taylor, land director at Persimmon South Coast.

Richard Bate said: "This was a complex and challenging deal to work on within a very demanding timescale. Our highly-regarded social housing and residential development practices ensure Wragge & Co is ideally placed to handle such large and significant matters. This deal helps meet local housing needs sooner than would otherwise be possible."

Peter Taylor said: "As always, the devil is in the detail in such complex and substantial multi-party deals. The very experienced, committed and business-like approach the Wragge & Co team always adopt enabled us to cut through the difficulties, securing sign-off in record time to the great satisfaction of all concerned."

Persimmon Homes is one of the UK's leading housebuilders, providing quality new homes in a large number of locations throughout the UK. Wragge & Co has been working with Persimmon for more than ten years, advising on property matters including of counsel Suzanne Lloyd Holt and associate Paul Barker securing victory in the High Court and the Court of Appeal for Westbury Homes, a part of Persimmon Plc, in the case Rennie v Westbury Homes.

Working alongside some of the UK's leading developers and housebuilders, Wragge & Co's 18-lawyer Residential Development team's experts advise on large, high-value, complex projects involving multiple land uses and multiple parties. In the past six months the team has worked alongside specialists from the Social Housing team to advise Sanctuary Housing Group on its acquisition of 336 affordable units from Bloor Homes. The deal was the first acquisition to go through the Housing Corporation's National Clearing House.
