Wragge & Co secures green light for E.ON UK plc on a trio of energy agreements
06.05.08
Wragge & Co LLP Energy team has advised E.ON UK plc on three long-term agreements for the purchase of renewable electricity.
The renewable electricity will be produced by three wind farms: Bagmoor, West Durham and Port of Liverpool. They will have a combined capacity of 50 megawatts and are expected to be constructed in 2009.
Energy associate Gus Wood, working closely with E.ON in-house counsel Jon Cornelius, advised Christian Pegrum and Rene Blokhuizen, the lead commercial negotiators for E.ON.
Gus Wood said: "With these agreements, E.ON is once again demonstrating its commitment to renewable energy. Offshore and onshore wind farms have an important role to play in securing lower carbon generation in the UK. Our close working relationship with E.ON and expert knowledge of the sector enabled us to bring these transactions to a successful close."
Jon Cornelius at E.ON said: "Renewables will be a vital part of the generation mix for E.ON going forward, together with gas, cleaner coal and nuclear and we're delighted to have concluded these agreements. We look forward to the output from these wind farms being added to our own renewable generation, including one of the UK's largest offshore wind farms which we're currently building at Robin Rigg in the Solway Firth."
The Bagmoor wind farm will be developed by HgCapital on a site north of Scunthorpe. The proposal is for a cluster of eight wind turbines, each generating two megawatts of renewable electricity, that will supply power to around 8,900 homes. Vinson & Elkins LLP advised HgCapital.
The West Durham wind farm will be developed by HJ Banks. Twelve turbines, each generating two megawatts of renewable electricity, will provide enough electricity to meet the needs of 13,400 homes in County Durham. Bond Pearce LLP advised HJ Banks.
Peel Wind Power will develop the Port of Liverpool wind farm in Merseyside, which will comprise four turbines, each generating 2.5 megawatts of renewable electricity. Addleshaw Goddard LLP advised the developer.
Gus Wood, and energy partner Derek Goodban, have previously advised E.ON on a number of similar agreements, including in relation to SembCorp's Wilton 10 biomass project (which was opened by Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks earlier this year).
E.ON is one of the UK's leading integrated power and gas companies, generating and distributing electricity, and retailing power and gas. It is part of the E.ON group, the world's largest investor-owned power and gas company.
Wragge & Co's cross-firm energy practice comprises a single team of regulatory, construction, corporate, real estate and finance experts.
