Wragge & Co LLP Real Estate Group has advised new client D&D London on a landmark development in Birmingham.

Restaurant group D&D London has agreed a deal with Birmingham Development Company to develop a 12,000 sq ft rooftop space at The Cube into a complex of restaurants, together with bars, private rooms and gardens. The deal creates Birmingham's first panoramic rooftop restaurant and D&D London's first UK venture outside London.

Chris Hunt, Wragge & Co's head of retail and leisure, and solicitor Kulvir Desai advised D&D London. Eversheds acted for Birmingham Development Company.

Chris Hunt said: "As one of the UK's biggest real estate practices we have an important role in Birmingham's ongoing architectural transformation, advising on projects including the V Building and Birmingham Pinnacle. This deal sees us help to bring an exciting new development to the city and demonstrate our commercial, relationship-focused approach to a new client."

D&D London is a new company formed following the acquisition of a 49 per cent stake in Conran Restaurants by Des Gunewardena, David Loewi and their financial backers. It owns and operates 26 restaurants in London, Paris, Copenhagen, New York and Tokyo. This is the first time D&D London has instructed Wragge & Co.

The Cube, a 500,000 sq ft, 25-storey building designed by Ken Shuttleworth, will include 244 luxury apartments, offices, shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and a boutique hotel. Construction is underway and will be complete by early 2010. The Cube is the final phase in the development of The Mailbox, extending the UK's largest mixed-use building to a total of two million sq ft.

Wragge & Co's 27-partner national Real Estate Group is one of the largest full-service real estate teams in the UK. It advises major private and public organisations on matters ranging from asset management to environment; planning to tax; and litigation to regeneration. Retail and leisure is a core part of the practice, with sector-focused specialists advising household names including Vodafone, Marks & Spencer, Marston's, McDonald's Restaurants and B&Q, as well as investors and developers.
