Outsourcing

This team of more than 50 outsourcing experts, including the 'high-profile' Bill Jones, brings a wealth of 'valuable outsourcing experience to the table'. It helps steer clients through a range of strategic issues, from business operations, offshoring, technology and change, through to procurement.

Whatever your outsourcing requirement, the team's experience and expertise covers technology-based outsourcing such as Information Technology (IT) and business process outsourcing, as well as facilities management, payroll and Human Resources (HR).

With long-standing experience of advising 'first-rate clients' (Chambers UK) on contracts in the private and public sector, the team represents both customers and suppliers in complex, high-value and multi-jurisdictional deals in sectors including the financial services, retail and aviation.

A strong track record in advising on the outsourcing of passenger systems services saw the team's aviation specialists advise Malaysia Airlines, Olympic Airlines and Norwegian Air Shuttle. In retail the team acts for a number of blue-chip retailers across a wide spread of work, including desktop and telecoms outsourcing.

The long-term success of outsourcing agreements depends on the specialist negotiation skills of the lawyers involved. This team boasts the 'effective negotiator' Sarah Sasse (Chambers UK), a public sector specialist who advised on the £2.2 billion 'Building Schools for the Future' ICT deal for Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. Client feedback agrees the team brings 'experience and guidance to ensure the deal proceeds and completes smoothly'.

According to David Hamlett, the team doesn't shy away from being at the heart of sector 'firsts'. Healthcare sector specialists advised the NHS on a £40 million pilot project to develop and improve the contracting and procurement elements associated with the commissioning of mental health services from the independent sector.

Developing a creative approach is central to this team's approach. Working with the Ministry of Defence on one of its largest ever procurement exercises - a £3 billion CVF aircraft carrier project - the team developed an innovative alliance to enable the ground-breaking project to go ahead.

Secondments to clients and experience of working in-house significantly add value to the team's expertise. Bleddyn Rees was seconded to the NHS for four years. During this time he had responsibility for a wide range of policy and legal advice and returned to the team with 'invaluable regulatory experience' (Legal 500). Peter Hall, a financial services specialist, worked in-house at Citybank. Roger Whipp was formerly a senior in-house legal counsel at British Airways.

Clients include Anglian Water, BT, British Airways, Capgemini UK, Coventry City Council, GlaxoSmithKline, Malaysia Airlines, Marks & Spencer, Merrill Lynch, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and Universal Music Group.
