Wragge & Co advises English Heritage on conservation purchase
10.04.08
Wragge & Co LLP Real Estate group has advised English Heritage on its acquisition of a historically important building – 54-57 Albion Street in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter.
Built in 1837, the property is a Grade II* listed jewellery workshop. The building's stock, equipment and company records remain in the property, creating a unique historical record of the industry. As part of the transaction, English Heritage has retained the services of Mr Tony Evans. He is the third generation of his family to have been involved in the business at the property. Mr Evans will work with English Heritage to collate and interpret the building's contents.
Real estate partner Sarah Thompson led the team. Employment specialist Rebecca Jones advised on the retention of Mr Evans as a consultant and Jordanna Popli provided intellectual property law expertise. The team worked alongside Tim Johnston and Ceri Pemberton from English Heritage.
Sarah Thompson said: "We have greatly enjoyed working with English Heritage on this unusual and fascinating project. A cross-firm team delivered a result that ensures the building and the knowledge of Mr Evans are conserved."
