08.04.08
Wragge & Co LLP has boosted its intellectual property practice with the appointment of Alexandra Brodie and Dr Luke Kempton as partners.
Alexandra specialises in brand litigation and resolving IP disputes for clients in the high-tech sector. Luke, a PhD biochemist, is a key member of the firm's sector-focused life sciences practice. He advises on a mix of patent litigation and non-contentious work, including collaboration agreements and regulatory matters.
Gordon Harris said: "With a unique blend of high-quality technical ability and strong people skills, Alexandra and Luke make ideal candidates for driving the expansion of the IP team forward in the UK and further afield. With top quality all-round IP litigation experience, Alexandra has cutting-edge niche expertise in high-technology patent litigation and high-level trade mark litigation. In the competitive life sciences market, Luke's experience will help maintain Wragge & Co's high-profile and reputation for excellence."
Alexandra has more than 10 years experience as an IP lawyer. She is a member of a number of IP associations, including the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle, American Intellectual Property Law Association, TIPLO and INTA.
Alexandra said: "Our IP practice is going from strength to strength. The high-tech market is booming and Wragge & Co is one of the few firms to present a specialist offering in this field. With experience acting on ground-breaking cases for clients in the telecoms sector and some of the largest litigation to hit the Patents Courts, we are well-placed to grow our reputation in this field."
With more than 12 years as an IP lawyer, Luke has significant experience in managing complex litigation cases and jurisdictional patent actions in Europe and internationally, in addition to non-contentious matters. Notable examples include acting for Eisai on the purchase from Elan of the painkiller Prialt for £100 million.
Luke said: "Our life sciences practice is thriving and our strategy is working well. We've established a strong national and international presence and are poised for further growth."
Wragge & Co's IP team is one of the largest dedicated practices in the UK. Its 41 specialist lawyers advise UK and international blue chip clients on a range of contentious and non-contentious issues. With particular focus on sectors including life sciences, financial services, technology, franchising and brands, its client list includes Birds Eye, Dyson and British Airways. This year, the IP team secured a hard-fought Court of Appeal victory for Cinpres in the long-running Cinpres Gas Injection Ltd v Melea Ltd case.
As well as being Managing Intellectual Property's UK Law Firm of the Year, the team is ranked in tier one for contentious trade mark work in Managing Intellectual Property's global survey. Alexandra joins partners Gordon Harris, David Barron, Patrick Duxbury, Cerryg Jones, Michael Luckman, Huw Evans, Nick Cunningham and Chris Benson.
