OFT refers Patientline/Premier merger to Competition Commission

16.10.08

In July 2008, Hospedia Limited announced plans for "an exciting overhaul of the UK's bedside hospital entertainment and telephony industry" following its rescue of Patientline UK Limited from administration. The plans will see Hospedia also acquire Premier Telesolutions Limited, the closest competitor to Patientline.

Last week, the Office of Fair Trading announced its decision to refer the anticipated acquisition of Premier to the Competition Commission for further investigation.

Will consolidation in this market undermine the ability of patients to receive an affordable bedside communication service? What does this investigation mean for NHS trusts and what is the likely outcome?

Wragge & Co's analysis examines the background to this investigation and seeks to answer these questions.

If you are interested in putting your views forward to the Competition Commission or need assistance with a request for information or evidence, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Antitrust team.
