Wragge & Co advises E.ON on major combined heat and power station deal
17.04.07
Wragge & Co LLP's construction and energy experts have advised E.ON UK on its deal to create one of the world's largest combined heat and power stations on the Isle of Grain in Kent.
Rated at 1,275MW, the new power station will be built under a turnkey contract by Alstom. This state-of-the-art facility will export up to 340MW of 'waste' heat to National Grid's nearby LNG Terminal. The innovative CHP scheme will result in a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from the LNG Terminal of up to 350,000 tonnes each year. It is part of E.ON's UK-wide investment programme in biomass, wind farms, clean and cleaner coal and gas-fired power stations.
The Wragge & Co team worked closely with E.ON's in-house lawyers. It comprised director Paul Green, who advised on the construction agreement, with energy specialists Derek Goodban and Gus Wood advising on the arrangements for exporting waste heat. Jack Jacovou and Helen Emmerson provided additional advice on property matters. Pinsent Masons acted for National Grid, while Alstom was advised by an in-house team.
Paul Green said: "With this project, E.ON takes another step toward its twin goal of meeting customers' energy needs and reducing its emissions. It is a strategically important transaction and it shows the ability of our construction and energy experts to handle large projects for major corporates."
E.ON is the UK's largest integrated power and gas company, generating and distributing electricity, and retailing power and gas. It has an established relationship with Wragge & Co, instructing the firm on a range of matters including construction, energy, corporate, commercial and real estate.
Wragge & Co's cross-firm energy practice comprises a single team of regulatory, construction, corporate, real estate and finance experts.
