Community support

We don't work in a vacuum

Because our communities face some challenging issues, we offer our strengths back to those communities:

  • Homelessness – getting into employment is the best way out of homelessness so we use our skills around drafting CVs, preparing for interviews and giving homeless people practical work experience.
  • Education and mentoring – lawyers love words and academic 'stuff'. Many of our lawyers are reading partners to primary school children in some of the more deprived areas of Birmingham and London. Some also act as mentors to black and minority ethnic law students in local universities.
  • Inner city needs – poverty, racial tension and poor housing stock are just some of the issues challenging communities within half a mile of our offices. We work with charities and community organisations which are addressing these issues.

Let's not forget pro bono! Free legal advice is at the heart of our community work. Pro bono clients range from large non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to small charities and community organisations. We give more than just time. Our partner-funded charitable trust applies money to good causes each year. We also nominate a Charity of the Year, voted for by our people.

Some other things we're doing at the moment...

  • donating suits to homeless people seeking jobs. They can have their interviews and start their jobs wearing proper work clothing.
  • exchanging emails with primary school children needing extra literacy support. We're helping them with their grammar and they're learning about what we do.

There's lots more we can tell you about our community work. Please contact head of corporate responsibility, lorna_gavin@wragge.com.
