Proposed increase in the pension regulator's anti-avoidance powers

17.04.08

On 14 April 2008, the Government announced plans to give increased anti-avoidance powers to the Pensions Regulator which are aimed at reducing the risk to members' interests caused by scheme changes or corporate transactions.

Although the announcement will be followed by an eight week consultation on the proposals, the Government intends that the core amendments will be effective from the date of the announcement itself, with one amendment being effective from 27 April 2004.
