Energy Performance Certificates - transitional provisions published

Just weeks before Energy Performance Certificates become compulsory for certain commercial buildings, the Government has published regulations containing transitional provisions.

The Government had already confirmed that certificates will not be compulsory on sales or lettings which have exchanged or completed prior to 6 April 2008. Guidance was awaited on the situation where a property is already on the market or a deal is in progress as at 6 April, but contracts have not yet been exchanged. The latest regulations fall short of what the property market had hoped for.
