Wragge & Co advises new aviation client on landmark IT deal
28.03.07
The low-cost carrier has become the first airline to adopt Amadeus' Pioneer passenger service management solution, a flexible IT platform designed for the low-cost carrier airline industry. NAS has awarded Amadeus the first two phases of a three-phase project to outsource its passenger service systems. These systems comprise Amadeus Reservations, Amadeus Inventory and Amadeus Revenue Management, implemented in the initial phases, and Amadeus Departure Control System, due to be implemented in the second, ongoing phase.
Head of IT Bill Jones led the Wragge & Co team, which included associates Dan Smith and Valerie Taylor, and solicitor Richard Smith. Amadeus was advised by its in-house legal team.
Bill Jones said: "Compliance with IATA's end-of-2007 deadline for e-ticketing is a key driver for airlines changing their current passenger service systems. Aviation outsourcing is a growing market and, with a strong industry focus matched by excellent IT and outsourcing credentials, Wragge & Co is ideally placed to advise. Two deals for new clients highlights why we're rated as a leading firm in this sector."
NAS is Norway's leading low-cost carrier. It operates 22 Boeing 737-300 aircraft and, in 2006, carried 5.1 million passengers. The company has a 40 per cent market share on key domestic routes in Norway and offers a total of 90 domestic and international routes. It employs about 670 people and is registered on the Oslo stock exchange. Wragge & Co won the instruction following a competitive tender.
Information Technology and outsourcing specialists are part of a full-service practice dedicated to the aviation industry. A cross-firm aviation team brings together experts from the firm's core teams with one common purpose - delivering excellent legal advice and pragmatic commercial solutions to a complex industry.
This deal is the team's second aviation sector outsourcing project of 2007. It also advised Malaysia Airlines on a £53 million, ten-year passenger service systems outsourcing project. Other highlights include ongoing work with the Ministry of Defence on its £3 billion plus CVF aircraft carrier project.
